If You Go:
Getting There:
Huangzhou is about an hour by train from the Shanghai Central station. The main attraction is West Lake, a sprawling park populated with old temples, gardens, tea plantations and museums.
Sleeping
We stayed at the Four Points on the other side of the river, a brand new and very nice hotel. You do need to hitch a ride on the local bus to get to West Lake, but buses are frequent and very clean, plus it's always fun and enlightening to ride with the locals.
Dining:
Street food especially around West Lake is plentiful.
More Information:
I liked Huangzhou and would recommend a side trip here, there's plenty to see and do and the temple at Lingyin is pretty spectacular as are the tea plantations, black bamboo gardens and some of the other old temples and of course the cave carvings.
